1st edition, 2nd impression (1948). Maroon leatherette boards with gold gilt lettering, very gently rubbed and bumped at corners and head and tail of spine. Page edges very lightly foxed & upper edge dust-discoloured. Square neat and clean. Pages crisp and bright. Small pencil inscription on reverse of rear free endpaper. Dust jacket chapped at edges, especially along upper edge, with 1 inch tear from head of spine and some mild age marks on rear. Pictorial endpapers, colour plate frontispiece and numerous illustrations throughout, some full page with colour emphasis. Dust jacket now protected in removable, transparent protective sleeve of archival quality. Altogether a very nice copy of this hard to find early printing. Rare in this condition.
