1st ed, 3rd printing. 8vo. 316pp. Cinnamon-coloured cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine, mildest of rubbing at corners; hint of aging to pages. In a lovely, generally bright unclipped (15s) dust jacket by Edward Bawden, very slightly rubbed at spine tips and corners, and slightly sunned around spine. Both book and dust jacket have light signs of a previous dust jacket protector being affixed, but does not really detract. Signed and inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper: "Max Valentine, with best wishes, Iris Murdoch". Now protected in an archival quality Mylar wrapper.
