Complete in six volumes. Each volume has a colour plate frontispiece, with captioned tissue guard, and numerous botanical illustrations throughout, including further captioned tissue-guarded colour and black and white plates. Dark green cloth boards. A little worn and rubbed, especially on corners and spine tips. Previous owner's name in each volume. Very occasional toning and spotting. Volume Three has a crack over the corner on front board, the area around which is scuffed. Robert Thompson's seminal work on the art of gardening, revised and remodelled by William Watson, curator of the Royal Gardens at Kew. Stunning volumes with design and decoration by Glasgow style artist and book designer, Talwin Morris. Dark-green cloth with trellis design; to centre, a rose bearing white Glasgow Style flowers and thorns climbs. To either side, a blocked light-green ground with dark-green spades picked out. Above, sans serif letters in gilt, flanked by three rose heads. Important set of books, both in terms of book design and gardening. Held by the National Art Museum, the London Library, The Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew and the Natural History Museum in London, among others. A truly handsome set.
