Not dated [1947]. 1st edition, 1st printing. Red cloth boards (faded, rubbed at extremities and a few marks). Lending sheet on front free endpaper, no other library markings. Slightly foxed. In its original dust jacket by Micklewright (rubbed and a little chipped on edges, warped around spine, old internal tape strengthening). A handful of survivors from the Maryland land on Tiero, also known as Freak Island. Julian Masterman toils to ease the life of his shipmates, but he reckoned without the 'dark one', who brings death to the crew and a islanders alike. An unusual story, gripping to the end. Hard to find title.
