410pp. Plate frontispiece, tissued-guarded, and 7 further plate illustrations by Sir John Gilbert; 54 further illustrations in text by Paul Hardy. Decorated and illustrated cloth boards with gilt and colour stamped printing, continuing onto spine. Boards a little worn at edges and perhaps a tad dull. Rubbed on corners and spine tips; short nick at head of spine. Tissue guard a little browned and some spotting to text block edge, else internally neat, bright and clean. Lovely vintage volume of this classic children's tale - one of the very first historical novels aimed at children, which has been serialized by the BBC four times. Would make nice gift or a pleasure of a book to read to the grandkids. Hard to find with both the Gilbert and Hardy illustrations.
