Third impression, printed in the year of first publication. viii, 376pp, plus 8pp of publisher's adverts at rear. Tissue-guarded frontispiece and seven further monochrome plate illustrations, all by A C Michael. Blue cloth-covered boards, decorated with blind rules and gilt motif and lettering. (Boards lightly worn at edges rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends, a little sunned around spine, cloth cracks and fraying along rear spine joints, a few marks and patchily faded, but strong and square. Very attractive, decorative presentation plate on front free endpaper, indicating the book was once awarded to Mr Douglas Rankin by the Ladies Ambulance Class in Cardiff, 1909. Some light scattered spotting. A classic novel now hard to find in its first edition.
