216pp. Lavishly illustrated with full colour photographs. Black cloth boards with silver gilt titles to spine. Illustrated endpapers. Signed and inscribed by Helene Alexander on copyright page. 4to. In its original dust jacket (showing very slight shelf wear). Alexander, a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, has collected fans for over 40 years. In 1991 she founded the Fan Museum and is now president of its trust. Through expertly restored fans from the Lafayette Archive in the Victoria and Albert Museum and beautifully preserved fans from the Fan Museum in Greenwich, all fantastically photographed, this book presents, in the most elegant and informative way, a parallel history of fans from Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee year of 1897 to the interbellum court portraits of1925. A handsome, decadent volume.
