1st thus. Some of the later printings from the Folio Society lack the attractive marbled boards. Quarter bound in cloth over marbled paper boards with gilt lettering and bands to spine. Black endpapers. xviii, 366pp. Line drawings and cartoons through text by Peter Forster, introduced by Miles Kingston. In its original slipcase (light shelfwear). Bierce, an American journalist who disappeared in Mexico in the early 20th century, wrote an intermittent newspaper column for around 25 years providing alternative, punchy and cynically humourous word definitions, which were eventually published in book form in 1911. The text of this edition is a faithful reproduction.
