ii, 64 [10] pages. Bound in full black leather with gilt rules and lettering, five raised bands to spine inner gilt dentelles, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers. (Boards a little worn, rubbed at points and spine folds.) Inscription on front endpaper: "There were only six copies of this Manual bound in this form, and they were given to The Society of Antiquities, The Marquis of Ripon, Lord Talbot de Marlahide, Fairless Barber, Thomas Brooke, G J Fowler". This copy would appear to be that of G J Fowler, as there is a further inscription which reads "The Cistercian Statements are full of errors, having been printed from a very imperfect transcript and the great haste in order to be in time for the Meeting, G J Fowler". A programme for the general proceedings of a meeting of the Royal Archaeological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland, containing extensive details and research on the sites to be visited by participants, including Ripon Minster and Markenfield Hall and the Cistercian Abbeys to the visited - Rievaulx, Fountains Abbey, Byland Abbey and Jervaulx, with discussion of the their founding and the general principles of Cistercian Architecture, with shorter notes on Easby Abbey, Middleham Hall, Richmond etc. Founding statements reproduced in original Latin. Fold out linen map of the Ripon area; double spread plan of Cistercian architecture; double spread ground plan of Fountains Abbey; fold out plan of Roman, Medieval and Modern York.
