iv, 620 [4] pages, numerous full page engraved illustrations, 11 fold out songs with lyrics and music and one fold out illustration of Waterford in Ireland (the latter is torn on crease). Quarter bound in calfskin leather over card covered boards, five raised bands to spine, (heavily worn all round, cracked and chipped away at edges, corner leather eroded and spine leather dry and cracked at joints and spine tips, softened and scuffed at corners). Internally, previous owner's name on front endpaper, in copperplate hand (reads Ann Skevington, No. 6, Yeaverly), pages toned, some with small chips and creases at edges, some spotting, some fold outs have been mis-folded upon return, a few strained gutters, only a fragment of the rear free endpaper remains. Generally clean and binding holding firm. Volume XXVII of the Lady's Magazine, comprising all 12 monthly issues published in 1796. Each issue contains a selection of articles regarding history and world events, customs and opinions, political reflections, foreign news, home news, serialised novels and tales, letters and correspondence and poetical essays. Each issue contains at least one song with music and lyrics, a number of them attributing Handel as the composer. Other articles which feature in this bound volume include "Derwent Priory, a Novel'; 'On Temperance'; Story of the Exploits and Death of Captain Raggado and his Bravos'; 'On the Ill Effects of Reading without Digesting'; The States of the Poor and Rich'; Description of the Town of Carnarvon'; 'Letters Between Charles Waller, Chaplain to Oliver Cromwell, and Frances, one of the Protector's Favourite Daughters'; 'On the Age of Women'; etc Does not have the fashion plates present in some editions. Thick 8vo.
