1823-1837 A collection of periodical magazines from 1823-1837, bound together in cloth-covered boards (boards worn, rubbed at edges, cracked around spine, one prelim page detahed). The periodicals themselves are in good condition, with a little age toning and edge wear. Some spotting and occasional manuscript notes. Some 53 periodicals, some literary, some political and some church related but most board-brush, sometime satirical, stories, anecdotes and pen portraits. Examples include Town and Country Magazine; New Historical Note Book; National Views of London; The Plague in London; Tales of the Sea; The Mirror; The Idler, The Herald of Peace; The Calendar of Horrors; The Pulpit; The Penny Comic; The Dissenter; The Edinburgh Magazine; etc There is a handwritten table of contents at the front. Two of the periodicals contains accounts of Miss Whitehead, the Black Nun of Threadneedle Street, one of which purports to be an obituary of sorts. A large and heavy volume which will likely incur an additional charge for overseas delivery.
