Spillane first created private eye Mike Danger for the comic book market but temporary slump in that audience prompted him to shelve the book before production and create another, similar character called Mike Hammer for the adult book audience. Spillane was a successful writer and editor in the comic book field in the 1940s, writing the first Mike Hammer best seller in 1947. The appearance, at long last, of his comic book character, Mike Danger, brings the story of Spillane's career full circle.
