Mild rubbing to spine heel and head has slight year in cloth. Bump to top of front board, sun tanning to top of boards. Rear corners have slight damage. Beautiful hand-coloured and decorated ex-libris label on front paste down, indicating the volume once belonged to Walter Henry James, 2nd Baron Northbourne; his motto, J'Aime A Jamais, appears. A Tour to the Caves' is one of the earliest books to describe in detail the underground exploration of caves in England. It chronicles the Rev John Hutton's journey, made with unspecified companions, from Kendal, through the limestone country around Ingleborough and Malham, and on to Skipton and Leeds. Numerous karst features are noted, six caves explored and recorded. Boyne, p. 125, where only the second edition is noted; first edition 1780. Scarce volume, hard to find.
