Two essays on A W Pugin by the young artist who joined his household in Ramsgate in 1844. Pugin, considered then the leader of both the Gothic and Catholic revivals, was an exacting master but Powell stayed with him until the end of his life. Towards the end of his life Powell recorded, in these two essays, Pugin's eventful life and work.
