[8] 284pp [10]. Green cloth-covered boards, with gilt titles to spine (boards very slightly rounded at corners). Original erratum slip bound in. In its original dust jacket (a little chipped at edges). Edward Bowra was just 17 when he abandoned his office job to join Garibaldi and his Red Shirts in their march on Naples. A dashing, handsome and brilliant young man, he left a journal giving an eeye-witness account, before moving on and later joining the Chinese Maritime Customs. His son inherited his mantle and found himself in the midst of the Boxer Rebellion.
