442pp plus publisher's catalogue at rear, with numerous illustrations and page decorations, all by T H Robinson. Title page (and some others) printed in red and black. Frontispiece showing Sterne, from a portrait by Joshua Reynolds. In decorated cloth boards with gilt lettering. Top edge gilt. Boards a little worn, rubbed and rounded at corners and spine joints, one corner lightly fraying. Blind, embossed stamp on front free endpaper indicating that the volume was one in a W HSmith Library. A little mild spotting. Nice, vintage volume of this classic work.
