192pp, colour plate frontispiece and numerous line drawings in text, all by Geoffrey Whittham. In blue cloth boards with gilt decorations and imitation red title label on spine (just a little rounded at spine ends). Previous owner's gift inscription on front free endpaper, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original, unclipped dust jacket (lightly bumped at edges, closed tear across part of front panel, a few small tears at spine tips). Dust jacket now protected in a protective sleeve, fitted without the use of tape or adhesives. Michael Joseph's Cadet Edition of the Hornblower stories comprised four volumes. They present, in chronological order, many of the most exciting exploits in the adventurous career of Horatio Hornblower, C S Forester's naval hero of the Nelson epoch. This volume contains selections from Mr Midshipman Hornblower and Lieutenant Hornblower, selected for younger readers. Although most will want to read the whole set, each volume can be enjoyed as a story in itself.
