First edition in English. [xii], 242pp, [iv]. Was bound in plain brown leather, front board absent, rear board and front free endpaper detached. Rear board is heavily worn and rubbed with minor loss on upper corner. Front free endpaper chipped all round, browned, brittle, with inscription. The text block, with some chipping at page edges, mild browning and spotting and the occasional page crease, is complete, including the final errata page and two addenda. A scarce and interesting work, this copy is offered as a binding copy. Pomponius Atticus was a banker in Ancient Rome, and a patron of the arts. Unusually for his class, he was not particularly politically active and is chiefly now remembered for his close friendship and voluminous correspondence with Cicero. Large 16mo.
