viii, 152pp, colour plate frontispiece (showing Alnwich Castle, after a painting by Canaletto) plus numerous black and white plate illustrations. In red cloth boards with gilt titles on the spine (cloth lightly rounded at spine ends, a little darkened). Text block edges flecked, and hint of toning on endpapers, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original dust jacket (a little bumped at edges, slightly shelf worn). Dust jacket now protected in a Bordart-style sleeve, fitted without the use of tape or adhesives. 8vo. A good description of the Scottish border country which shows how incomplete the standard accounts of battles, ballads and the Roman Wall are in capturing the nature and glories of the border lands. A very nice copy, in a remarkably bright dust jacket.
