iv, 128pp, with tissue-guarded frontispiece and publisher's catalogue at rear. In blue cloth-covered boards with red decorations and gilt titles on spine (cloth is a lightly rubbed around spine and corners, slightly frayed at spine tips). The same owner has inscribed the volume twice, once in 1893 and again in 1900, with cartoon style sketches on the front free endpaper. The tissue-guard over the frontispiece is tanned, and pages slightly creamed, else internally neat, clean and tight. A biography of General Gordon covering his early years, Crimean experiences, his career in China, as leader of the Ever Victorious Army, as a commander and conqueror, the Taiping Rebellion, his time in Soudan and later life. 12mo.
