182pp, colour plate frontispiece and 133 further illustrations from photographs, engraving and drawings. In green cloth-covered boards (faded at edges, mildly sunned spine, gently rounded at spine ends). A tad of spotting on text block edges. Previous owner's gift inscription, dated 1946, on front free endpaper. In its original, pictorial dust jacket (a little bumped and rubbed at edges, some spotting, tiny chip on corner). Dust jacket now protected in a Mylar wrapper, fitted without the use of tape or adhesives. Described by TLS on publication as 'beautifully produced and does credit even to Batsford...It would be difficult to pack more practical information into the space and nothing but praise can be given.
