184pp, maps, sparsely illustrated. In bright orange cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on spine (lightly rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends). Text block edges faintly dust discoloured. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight. Gibbon's well-worn remark that the Knights Hospitallers 'neglected to live but were prepared to die in the service of Christ' invites the retort that all too few were prepared to do, but this re-examination of the fall of Rhodes into Muslim hands looks again at the history of the last of the crusaders. 8vo.
