Four volumes bound in one. xvi, 464pp. Beautifully illustrated, with glossy coloured plates, along with line drawings. Burgundy cloth-covered boards, illustrative front and spine, gilt titles on front and spine. Sun faded spine; bumped ends, cloth torn. Minor loss mid way down spine at front board, stain. Top text block edge gilded (fading), remaining edges foxing. Previous owner's name and date on front free endpaper. Hinges cracked. Internally neat and clean, barring some foxing. 8vo. Examines civilian costume and clothing, using the Norman Conquest as the starting-point. .
