2nd edition (first was 1891). 146pp, in stiff linen covers, printed. 12mo. Covers lightly soiled, worn at edges. One shilling stamp inside front cover, occasional minor wear to page edges and corners, else internally neat, clean and bright. Very slightly loose, pp1-4 detached but present. A collection of over a thousand recipes, compiled by E & B May - proclaimed as food specialists in all chronic diseases - and formerly manager and matron of the Hygiene Hospital (Hygienic Home and Sanatorium in Harlesden). Ernest May and his wife were supporters of the Hygienic Society, which was mostly but not strictly vegetarian, and their food regimes focussed on new foods, pure foods and natural living. This collection of recipes, according to the preface, focuses on producing flavour 'without perverting it by the use of salt, or other mineral compounds'. A very hard to find title. The May's other major work - May's Practical Methods' is slightly easier to find.
