50pp and 48 pages of plates. In orange cloth-covered boards. 4to. Corners and spine ends lightly bumped and rounded, spine faded. Small bookseller's ticket on the bottom left corner of the front pastedown endpaper, tanning on endpapers. Plate 50 has a closed tear through the middle of the page to the hinge. Lower leading corners of the plate pages are lightly rumpled from old water damage but otherwise the main text block is clean, neat, bright and tight. The painted white, tin-glazed pottery, or faience, of France was the various and original of its kind. This book discusses its characteristics and sets out its history, development and impact on European markets for ceramics and tablewares.
