First edition, second impression before publication. 223pp. Red cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on spine. 12mo. Lightly rubbed and rounded on corners and spine ends. Some markings on the front board, and scratches on the rear. Edges slightly discoloured. Internally, there is foxing on the half title page, and infrequently throughout. Significant crease on the rear endpaper. The novel follows the story of a young Stanley Windrush, who is conscripted to the British Army in 1942. This novel was adapted into a comedy film 1956.
