1st edition, 1st printing. 122pp with occasional black and white engraved illustrations. Quarter-bound in black linen over brown paper-covered boards, with motif on front board, coloured and textured endpapers. 8vo. Boards very gently rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends. Embossed stamp on front free endpaper, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original dust jacket, very slightly rubbed on corners and lightly bumped at spine tips. The decisive role of the Carraci in 17th century art was to resist the tide of Mannerism and return Italian painting to the main channel of classically-inspired realism. Translated from the original Italian into English by Catherine Enggass, with a foreword by Robert Enggass.
