First edition, second printing. 330pp. Red cloth-covered boards with silver coloured titles on spine. 8vo. Spine ends lightly rounded with very small chip at head. Board corners lightly rubbed and rounded; slight lean. Text block edges lightly tanned. Very slight cracking along front hinge. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight. Green paper dust jacket has light shelf wear, small loss at spine head, 2cm closed tear at spine head, chipping to edges, mirrors book damage, not price clipped. The story of a Scotswoman, who with her French husband and young children returned to his homeland at the outbreak of war. Whilst he joined his regiment, she stayed in a house in the Cevennes. An intelligent, courageous woman who remained essentially British but who felt her roots firmly planted in the soil of France.
