1st edition. viii, 472pp, 12 colour plates inc. frontispiece, illustrated throughout with black and white drawings and photographs. Green cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on front and spine, laid-in circular illustration on front; text block edges speckled in red. 4to. Spine ends lightly rubbed and rounded, corners lightly rubbed and rounded. Top text block edge dusty; remaining edges tanning. Endpapers moderately foxed. Volume quite loose. Internally there's the very occasional thumb mark on pages, otherwise a neat, clean and bright volume. A handsome volume that is beautifully illustrated throughout, with so many stories of the seas, the ships that sailed them and of the men and the voyages they undertook.
