Vol I (of II) only. xi, 416pp, black and white frontispiece. Red cloth-covered boards; gilt titles on spine, blind embossed titles and border on front. 12mo. Sun-faded spine, lightly rubbed spine ends and corners. Small tear in cloth at spine head. Volume quite loose. Text block edges lightly tanned and foxing; some pages uncut along top edge. Endpapers moderately tanned. Internally neat, clean and bright; barring very occasional foxing. Edited, with occasional elucidatory notes, translations of all the Latin, French and Italian quotations and a biographical notice of Lord Chesterfield.
