Complete in two volumes. Volume I: xxii, 702 [2]pp, with fold-out frontispiece and black and white illustrations in text. Volume II: x, 703-1472pp, with black and white illustrations in text. Both volumes uniformly bound in deep green cloth, decorated with blind rules, gilt titles on spine, top edge gilt. 8vo. Cloth a little worn, rubbed and rounded on corners and spine ends, small and scattered marks on cloth. A little spotting and toning on endpapers only, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. Archibald Geikie was one of the leading geologists of the late 19th and early 20th century, publishing his first Text-book of Geology in 1882. It was continually updated and augmented through successive editions, this the fourth edition reputed to be the best [Challinor, 249]. Geikie remains the only geologist to serve as President of the Royal Society.
