212pp, with colour plate frontispiece, title page vignette and numerous line drawings, sketches and engravings in text. Half bound in brown leather over marbled boards, gilt titles on a six panelled spine. 8vo. Boards are heavily worn, especially on edges and joints, scuffed around spine with slightly crumbling at spine tips and some cracking on joint ends, some chipping and marks. Front free endpaper absent, some spotting and smudging on first and last few pages, else internally neat, clean and tight throughout. The Welcome Hour was a monthly magazine for children packed full of stories, puzzles, brief articles and essays etc. This volume contains all 12 issues for 1880-1881, bound without title pages or indexes etc.
