In July 1803 the British Government passed Acts of Parliament to enable additional military forces to be raised for the defence and security of the nation. These Acts required men to be raised as volunteers or by ballot; these volume contains the names of some 2225 men raised for the counties of Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk, which may be helpful for genealogical research.
