First edition in book form. First printing. 498pp. In yellow cloth-covered boards with red titles front and spine. Deckled fore edge, coloured endpapers. 8vo. Boards a little soiled on extreme edges, gently rounded at spine tips and corners. Top text block edge a little dust-darkened, a couple of small mild smudge marks on prelims, else neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original dust jacket, rubbed at edges and on corners, slightly chipped at spine ends. Earlier versions of some scenes in this novel were previously published in magazines and journals.
