Four very large sheets, folded into portfolio, containing 10 plates of characters, 15 plates of scenes 5 plates of wings, to be coloured to make a Toy Theatre for Richard III. Landscape 12mo. Sheets just a little rubbed and soiled at edges in a few places, the very occasional mild marks and slightly uneven around folds. In the strong tradition of Toy Theatres, this version of Richard III first published by Green in 1851, is one of ten different issued for the Juvenile Drama. Its popularity owed much to the sensational rendering of the chief part - and Green's edition seems to reproduce the costumes and settings of the romantic school. This edition, then, may be studied and treasured - as a toy theatre it has particular interest; as a pictorial record of the living stage it gives a fascinating glimpse of the scenery, costumes, make-up and stage gestures that might have been prevalent at minor theatre Shakespearean productions during the first half of the 19th century.
