First edition. xxii, 232pp, with numerous monochrome illustrations in text, 22 monochrome plate illustrations and fold-out sketch map at rear. In Lincoln green cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on spine. Small 4to. Boards a little rubbed around corners, rounded at spine ends. Some faint and occasional spotting on text block edges and endpapers only, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. Dust jacket worn all over with some chipping on edges and folds, a couple of minor scratches on verso, shelf worn. The first comprehensive account of glass-making in the Weald of Sussex and Surrey. The few forest glasshouses outside the Weald, where anything is known, is also discussed, meaning that the volume deals with much of the forest glass-making industry of England. Includes discussion of techniques and glass-making families as well as a history of the industry.
