The work of Daniel Berkely Updike stands foremost among the classic works on the printing trade. He was not only an accomplished typographical historian but also a master printer, and writer of considerable power. Based on lectures delivered not to printers but to students of business adminstration, the mysteries of letter-design, type-founding and composition are laid open to the layman.
