First edition, first printing. 412pp. With monochrome plate frontispiece and further plate illustrations. In deep red cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on spine. Top edge sprayed red. 8vo. Boards just a little rubbed and rounded at corners and spine tips. Fore-edge spotted. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight. A history of Stonyhurst College, the Jesuit, Catholic college in Lancashire. The author argues that Stonyhurst's origins can be traced back to St Omers in 1593, Bruges in 1762, Liege in 1773 and then finally to Stonyhurst in 1794.
