[1938] First UK edition, preceded by the first American Doubleday, Doran edition in 1937. 312pp plus 8pp catalogue at rear. In red cloth boards with black lettering front and spine. Top edge sprayed red. 12mo. Boards lightly soiled on edges, gently rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends. Hint of toning on text block edges and endpapers, else neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original, first state, dust jacket, with the price of 7/6 printed on spine. Dust jacket is worn and torn around edges, with some loss in corners and top and tail of spine, flat creases and various edge nicks and folding. Dust jacket now protected in an archival quality Mylar-style wrapper fitted without the use of tape or adhesives.
