First edition, first printing. 140pp. In red cloth boards with gilt lettering. 8vo. Boards just a little rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original worn dust jacket, rubbed and bumped at edges with a few short nicks at edges, sunned over spine and soiled on extreme edges. An unusual book - Lord Elton's record of various reflections and encounters in a Midlands village during the course of a single day in the summer of 1948, through the texture of which can be discerned here and there, as when two photographs are imposed upon the same film, bringing glimpses of another village, belonging to another life.
