Boards gently rounded at corners; internally neat, clean, bright and tight throughout. In its original dust jacket, a little rubbed at corners, creased on inner front flap, very slightly bumped on edges in places.

Laing was one of the first missionaries from the Glasgow Missionary Society to arrive on the eastern frontier of South Africa in 1831; like others, he kept a daily journal until his death in 1872. This volume contains the first six years of his journals and covers a tumultuous period on the Eastern Cape, revealing his observations and close relations with the amaXhosa people of the region.
