First edition, first printing. This copy is dated 1943 on the title page. 252pp, in burgundy cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on spine. 12mo. Cloth very gently rubbed at edges in places. Upper text block edge dust dulled. Internally neat and clean throughout. Volume just a tad lose. In its original soiled dust jacket, with a couple of small chips on edges and corners, minor loss at head of a sunned spine. Jacket now protected in a Mylar-style protective sleeve, fitted without the use of tape or adhesives. An adult novel from the author of the Just William books, featuring the Weatherley family during the years 1902 to 1942, in which Arthur Weatherley returns from the South African War his grandchildren face the Battle of Britain.
