Title page printed in red and black. 8vo. Boards a little rounded on corners and ends of a lightly sunned and worn spine. Upper text block edge a little dust darkened. Previous owner's elegant bookplate on front free endpaper else internally neat, clean, bright and tight barring a couple of mild creases to front free endpaper and half title. The History of the Damnable Life of Doctor Johan Faustus given her in modernised spelling was first published in 1592 as a translation of Historia von Doctor Johann Fausten. The Second Report of Doctor John Faustus is an anonymous English work first published in 1594. A useful yet scarce edition. Faust is protagonist of the classic German legend based on the historical Johann Georg Faust (c. 1480-1540) who made a pact with the devil exchanging his eternal soul for unlimited knowledge and earthly pleasure. With introductory analysis and historical and contextual notes.
