First edition, first printing. 440pp with numerous colour plate illustrations and other decorations in text. In green boards with gilt lettering. Richly decorated endpapers. Slightly dust marked upper text block edge else neat, clean, bright and tight throughout. In its original dust jacket, very lightly bumped along top edge and at spine ends, a little rubbed on extreme corners. Not gardening book but the splendid story of a flower that has made men mad. Ranging across Asia, India, Russia and the Ottoman Empire, Pavord tells how the wildflower tulip arrived in Western Europe from Turkey and took Western Europe by storm. A beautiful book.
