First edition.  x, 246pp, with central section of half tone plate illustrations.  In green cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on spine.  8vo.  Cloth a tad pushed at spine ends, very slightly worn.  Previous owner's name inked on front free endpaper else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original glossy dust wrapper, lightly bumped on extreme edges and very slightly shelf worn.

Michael Fairlie recounts his time as an army office during the second world war, taken prisoner at the Battle of Crete and afterwards serving as a translator in a prisoner of war camp; and his post war experiences as a colonial adminstrator in Africa, mostly Botswana and Swaziland, where he met many of the key players during a turbulent and politically shifting time.
