Hugh Reginald Haweis (1838-1901) was primarily a clergyman and writer but fascinated my music and wrote books on bells and violins. He is perhaps best remembered for Music and Morals, first punblished in 1871. This volume provides a biographical review of his career and teachings and traces his musical journey and in particular his expert knowledge of Cremonese violin-makers and of composer Paganini etc.
