Reprint. 404pp, plus some monochrome plate illustrations. In blue publisher's cloth boards with gilt titles front and spine. 8vo. Boards are worn, faded towards edges and rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends, sunned over spine with some mild marks. Spotting on text block edges and mildly so on endpapers. Previous owner's name neatly inked on front paste down. Hint of page toning else internally neat and clean. A little soft.
Berta Giessmar (1892-1949) was secretary and business manager to both orchestral conductors Sir Thomas Beecham andWilhelm Furtwangler. She worked for the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra until 1935 when, because of her Jewish heritage, she fled Nazi Germany for London.
