xxxviii, cxxxvi monochrome plate illustrations, four tipped in, mounted colour plates with captioned tissue-guards.  Half bound in green leather over marbled paper boards. red and black leather title labels on a spine with five raised bands.  Marbled endpapers.  Top edge gilt.  4to.  Boards heavily worn, with leather chipped, rubbed and scuffed, peeling on one corner and at ends of a dried and faded spine.  Large bookplate of the GWR [Great Western Railway] Mechanic's Institution, Swindon, on the front paste down. First and last few pages have a little light soiling and faint spotting.  Tissue-guard for the first colour plate is absent.  Likely a later binding.

A beautiful photographic survey of some of the historic gardens at the country and historic homes in the English midlands and eastern counties.
