The Municipal Year Book and Encyclopedia of Local Government Adminstration, 1940

lxiv, 1350pp, with several contemporary adverts throughout volume, some printed in two colours.  Quarter bound in blue leatherette over blue cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering and titles on both panels and spine.  8vo.  Cloth is a little worn, rubbed through and rounded at corners and spine ends, tiny cracks in leatherette at spine ends and a little scuffed around joints.  Bookplate from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government Library on the front free endpaper, and stamp on title page, early pages a little rounded on upper leading corner else internally neat, clean, bright and tight.  

The Municipal Year Book was an annual publication, starting in 1897, being an offical reference to all forms of government, local government and public adminstration.  This volume, in particular, is overshadowed by the the sense that war is approaching and contains much on war preparation and civil defence, including allusions to evacuation schemes and the Emergency Medical Service.
