First edition. xxxii, 360pp, [32pp - publisher's catalogue], with lyrics and music. Deep green cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering and motif front and spine. Deep green endpapers. 8vo. Boards a little bumped on corners, lightly pushed at spine ends, a couple of small & mild marks. Stamp from the famous Sauchiehall Street music store, Ewing and M'Intosh on the title page, and hint of toning at page edges, the occasional mark on pages, else internally neat, clean and tight.
An important and one of the earliest collections of sea shanties and work songs, possibly the first to include music as well as lyrics. With an introduction by R M Ballantyne. Hard to find title.
